New Wapda Digital Sim Meters Is Going To Installed Now [See Features]

Pakistan is getting ready for the implementation of smart power meters/Digital Meters. These meters have been tested in Islamabad, Pakistan recently and there is great hope that these digital meters will get a 100% chance of inserting all over Pakistan.

The news that SIM CARDS will soon replace power meters is evidence of how far technology has come. At the center of these digital meters is a SIM card that enables real-time communication with a central server. The meter continuously collects information on how much electricity is used, including current, voltage, power factor, and other relevant data. This data is subsequently sent to the server via the SIM card’s cell phone network.

The Asian Development Bank provided $30 billion in funding for the project’s expenses. In Lahore, the company wants to install 1.8 million Digital meters. The new electricity meter technology is made to automatically scan data and transmit information to the server, this is how electricity bills are created.

Smart Digital Sim Meter Going To Installed

There are many advantages of using digital meters. We are going to explain some of them here:

These newly introduced digital meters work on the feature of Automatic Meter Reading AMR. If we take the example of old meters where the whole Wapda Team collects meter readings manually by moving all over Pakistan.

There was no functionality of AMR in the old meters. But these latest digital meters have the function of Automatic Meter Reading. Now WAPDA workers can take meter data by staying in the office. Also check: Kafalat Program and PM Youth Loan Scheme.

Digital Meters have the function of inserting a SIM Card in it. These SIM cards will be present inside your meter and help WAPDA detect how many Units of electricity a home will consume. WAPDA already contains the data of each house using a digital meter and will be able to get each information using the SIM Card No.

Additionally, many rumors are spreading about the SIM card that will used in these digital meters. The majority of social media platforms highlight that users need to recharge their SIM cards to use the Meter. It is 100% fake, The government of Pakistan will itself take the recharge of each SIM Card and will add ca small piece of Tax to the user’s electricity Bills.

The digital meters have the capability of reading current, voltage, power factor, and other relevant data continuously daily. As compared to old meters where a reading is done every month. By using these meters WAPDA will able to get daily.

Advantages of Digital Meters

  • One of the best advantages of digital meters is that now users can get the data of their meters daily as there is a SIM inserted in it and users can access everything by themselves.
  • There is no need to take meter readings manually as these meters have the option of AMR(Automatic Meter Reading).
  • WAPDA Team can easily get Meter Reading by relaxing in the office.
  • Electrical theft can be significantly reduced, and the grid station will manage tasks like establishing and removing the electrical supply.
  • Real-time electricity usage tracking enables users to pinpoint energy-intensive appliances and modify their usage accordingly.

Disadvantages of Digital Meters

  • Linemen’s jobs seem to come to an end which can lead to poverty.
  • Because digital meters are network-connected, there is a higher chance of hacking and cyberattacks.
  • The overall insertion of these meters will be expensive and not all the families will able to afford it.
  • There is a 25% chance, that the Government of Pakistan made a role of recharging the SIM card that will inserted in the Digital Meter.

How does a Digital meter work?

A digital meter uses a mobile phone network to send data to the utility provider about how much energy is being utilized continuously. This data enables time-of-use pricing and other benefits, such as real-time monitoring of electricity consumption.

How can I read my Digital Meter?

Digital screens on smart meters show your present electricity usage as well as additional important information. The internet portals and mobile applications that your utility company offers may additionally provide you access to full-use data analysis.

Conclusion

As of 2024, Pakistan is rapidly deploying digital power meters with SIM technology. The ultimate objective is to create a fully digitalized power industry that is highly efficient and able to meet the country’s growing energy needs.
